Argents Express Group is proud to announce that thanks to the growth and support of our customers and the presence of Charleston as a port of entry for goods from Europe and increasingly Asia, we have moved into a new facility at 9015 Sightline Drive in North Charleston. If you’ve got a Post & Courier subscription, you can read the story here.
Charleston is a key point for Argents’ fulfillment and distribution business throughout the southeastern United States. More importantly, we are extremely excited to bring thirty-five more high-paying jobs to Charleston County.
In its most recent report, the South Carolina Ports Authority announced: “SC Ports handled 226,515 twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUs) at Wando Welch Terminal, North Charleston Terminal, and Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal in January, up 4.7% year-over-year. SC Ports has handled more than 1.64 million TEUs thus far in the fiscal year 2022, from July through January, up nearly 15% fiscal year-over-year.”
It isn’t just the TEU count that is up at the port – one of the biggest challenges that the industry faces nationwide is the availability of chassis for import and export containers. Charleston is taking steps to create a SMART chassis fleet owned and operated by the port. The first 700 of those chassis were delivered in January, the first step on the planned road to launching the pool in April 2023.
The new facility is focused on receiving import containers, devanning them, and preparing their contents for fulfillment across a variety of final mile modes including truck, courier, and postal. The building is 117,000 square feet and has 27 dock doors.
Only fifteen miles from Wando, North Charleston, and Leatherman terminals, we can quickly recover containers after they are grounded and made available far more quickly than in other heavily-congested and delay-riddled markets we operate like Seattle and Chicago.
The congratulations from local and state-wide business leaders also tell us that our decision to expand here was well-received.
South Carolina Governor McMaster said, “It is a testament to our growing business community when a company chooses to grow its footprint in our state. We congratulate Argents on their decision to expand and create 35 more jobs in Charleston County, and we look forward to their continued growth.”
The state’s Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III offered, “When companies like Argents are able to build on their success in South Carolina, it showcases the strength of our business-friendly environment and talented workforce. We couldn’t be happier for this company and their growth in Charleston County.”
And from Charleston County Council Chairman Teddie Pryor, “Argents Air Express’ announcement is a direct reflection of the growth in the warehousing and distribution industry due to rising consumer demands. Our world-class assets continue to distinguish Charleston County as a superior place to do business.”
We are operating Monday – Friday from 7:30 to 5:00 and are capable of adding additional staff or shifts for clients who may have time-constrained projects or need expanded hours.
